Abstract

The study purpose is to clarify effects of public health nursing practice and issues related to them in University A that employs PDCA development diagrams for public health nursing activity. Anonymous self-administered surveys were performed for 161 fourth grader students from 2018 to 2019 and 139 valid answers were obtained. Four and five points for each goal were defined as learning achievement degrees. High and low score groups before practice were determined from the total learning achievement scores of 53 goal items. Three-quarters of them wished to be community health nurses. Their learning motivation for practice was almost positive. Learning targets of the items significantly increased after practice. Learning achievement degrees exceeded 90%. The learning achievement degrees of“Relate community health nurse activities to local health problems and draw PDCA cycles in development diagrams”exceeded 98%, suggesting they depended on repetition of the thought of PDCA cycles. Scores of the low score group rose to the level of the high score group after practice. This practice program brought achievement to both low and high scorers. Teachers need to be involved with health nurses’studies to promote them while giving meaning to the practice and concept and promoting cooperation with facilities.
