Abstract
This study retorospectively reviewed the results of conservative treatment of lumbar spinal canal stenosis. Therapeutic results were analyzed by use of JOA score, activities of daily life and radiologic findings.
Fifty one patients with lumbar spinal canal stenosis were included in this study. Thirty nine cases were degenerative canal stenosis and twelve cases were degenerative spondylolisthesis. The average age at admission was 65.9 years old and the average follow-up period was 2 years and 1 month.
We evaluated their walking ability and JOA score at the time of admission, and those were compared with myelogram and CT after myelography.
There was a correlation between JOA score and prognosis, but there was no correlation between radiological severity and prognosis.
All patients of this study had only radicular symptoms. Operations were performed in all patients with cauda equina syndrome, because of the recurrence of symptoms.
