High-valent arylcopper(III) intermediates have long been proposed to have a key role in copper-catalyzed arylation. Recently, stoichiometric reactions of some isolable arylcopper(III) complexes prove their involvement in carbon-heteroatom bond formation. In addition, highly effective arylation reactions catalyzed by putative arylcopper(III) species were reported more recently. In this mini-review, I describe recent advances in high-valent organocopper chemistry.
