Abstract
The equimolar mixtures of such bicyclic terpene hydrocarbons as 2-pinene (1), 2 (10) -pinene (2), camphene (3), tricyclene (4), bornylene (5) and lower fatty acids (carbon number 24) was passed through a glass tube packed with cation exchange resin at room temperature.
By this treatment both (1) and (2) yielded following four alcohols; 1-β-fenchylalcohol (6), isoborneol (7), n-borneol (8) and α-terpineol (9).
On the contrast, the hydration of (3), (4) or (5) gave a single product, isoborneol (7).
