The methods for synthesizing acrylamido-N-glycolic acid (1), N-acetyl-α-methacryloxyacetamide (3), and 2- (3-oxazolidinyl) ethyl methacrylate (5) were studied. (1) was prepared by the reaction of acrylamide and glyoxylic acid in an aqueous solution at pH 7.5 and 50°C. (3) was synthesized from equivalent amounts of methacrylic acid, triethylamine and N-acetyl-α-chloroacetamide (2) in acetonitrile. The synthesis of (2) was also investigated. Furthermore, (5) was obtained by the reaction of methacryl chloride, triethylamine, and N- (β-hydroxyethyl) oxazolidine in benzene at 20°C.
