Recent synthetic works on the alkaloids including emetine, tabersonine, quebrachamine, vincamine, eburnamine, velbanamine, 4 α-, and 4 β-dihydrocleavamine, through the cleavage of cyclic α-diketone monothioketal intermediates are reviewed. Formations and synthetic utilities of α-diketone monothioketal are also briefly reviewed.
