Organic Syntheses in Supercritical Fluids Directed toward Green Chemistry

Abstract

Chemical transformations in supercritical fluids (SCFs) have enormous potential advantages. The possibilities of rate enhancement and adjustable selectivities will motivate the research of chemical reactions in SCFs. In addition to the scientific benefits, supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO₂) as a reaction medium and reactant possesses economical, technical, and environmental advantages in line with the spirit of the “Green Chemistry”. Recent progress in the organic reactions and organometallic catalysis in scCO₂ is reviewed with emphasis on the benefits of utilization of CO₂.
