It may be out of the scope of this scientific meeting to make a lecture of no scientific value, expressing merely a desire regarding the necessity of thorough and quick inquiry into the regulations and standard for the marine electrical machinery and installation in our country. The shipbuilding, including marine engineering, industry is founded upon the assembled outcome of every branch of industrial activities, hence the naval architects and marine engineers are bound to pay attention to the up-to-date development of the engineering world at large The electrical industry, which is deeply associated with te modern ships and in many cases occupies the vital position of their energy, has been relatively neglected for its marine purpose up to the present. Its technical standard has not been established and its specification has been incomplete and no rules and regulations have been made for the marine electrical equipments. It is very significant and most urgently needed for the advance of Japan's shipbuilding industry that such deplorable situation to be quickly improved and it is strongly hoped that our Society would take the actual steps to make the investigations in this field for the development of the marine electrical engineering.
