We are sad to announce the passing of Dr. Mike Fetters on July 14, 2023. For the Japanese Society for Mixed Methods Research (JSMMR), Dr. Fetters was the founding driver of the organization. Thus, his significant contribution to JSMMR was never expressed enough and will be a legend as long as we exist.

As news of his passing spread, I realized that he had inspired many researchers and clinicians he came in contact with not only in Japan but around the world, as seeing many people from around the world sending messages of praise and gratitude to Dr. Fetters while grieving for him. In Japan, researchers and clinicians who face diverse and complex social issues using the mixed methods research approach mainly in health and medicine have learned from and been inspired by Dr. Fetters. When we asked JSMMR members to contribute a message of memories with Dr. Fetters, we received contributions from five members. There are probably other JSMMR members who feel the same way. We want to share the messages from these five members to express our gratitude to Dr. Mike Fetters and cherish his Big Heart personality. (Editor in Chief of AMMR Yoko Kawamura)
