(1) The writer gave a brief interpretation of the previous discussions. concerning the occurrence of Raingreen Forests in Formosa. (2) The macroclimatic condition of Formosa is outlined, and is expressed severally by the KOPPEN'S climatic formulae (Fig. 1.) It is discussed that how much has the macroclimatic condition acted upon the development of vegetation in Formosa. (3) Judging from the Awa Climate recognized in the south-western part of Formosa, the woods in this area presumably correspond with the Raingreen Forest type. It is, therefore, small wonder to think that the woods in this area may be a climatic climax. (4) The Albizza procera-Bridelia monoica association (Fig.2., Tab.3.) of Raingreen Forests and the Bombax Ceiba-Imperata cylindrica association of Savannah Forests, both of which grow in this area, are explained.

An attempt has been made to subdivide the intertidal (littoral) zone based on the influence of tidal factors especially the diurnal inequality. On the Pacific coast of Japan, four zones (Subsprash zone→Upper littoral zone→Lower littoral zone→Superior sublittoral zone) are divided. On the coast of the Japan Sea, there is no proper littoral zone and only two zones (Subsprash zone-Superior sublittoral zone) are recognized. The attempt seems to be very suggestive for the consideration of the habitat for seaweeds, because the real zonation of the littoral vegtation in the above mentioned localities corresponds with the above mentioned subdivision in number.

Unfortunately our knowledge of the exact distribution of bryophytes in Japanese Archipelago is very slight. It is my desire to publish the detailed distribution-maps for noteworthy Japanese species of Bryophytes. This study was undertaken in 1922 and has been coutinued up to the present day. In this paper the ranges of two species of Trichocoleopsis are treated. 1 Trichocoleopsis bissett (MITT) HHORIK. At present, Tr. bisseti is known from 25 localities, viz. 11 in Honshiu, 11 in Shikoku and 3 in Kiushiu respectively. So fas as the present state of my knowledge is concerned, this plant has its northern limit in Mt. Iwate (39°52'L.N.) of Honshiu and its southern limit in the Island of Yakushima (30°17'L.N.). As will be seen from the map 1 the centre of distribution lies in Shikoku. Area geogr. Japan (Honshiu, Shikoku, Kiushiu). 2 Trichocolepsis sacculata (MITT.) S. OKAM. At present Tr. sacculata is known from 76 localities, viz. 48 in Honshiu, 17 in Shikoku, 9 in Kiushiu and 2 in Corea respectively. So far as the present state of my exploration is concerned, this plant has its northern limit in Mt. Hakkoda (40°39'L.N.) of Honshiu and its southern limit in the Island of Yakushima (30°17'L.N.). As will be seen from the map 2 the centre of distribution lies in the middle-south district of Honshiu.

22 pollen diagrams studied by many workers in Japan were used in establishing the main phases of the vegetational development. The vertical migration of the forest zones was recognized from these diagrams. Such changes as are reflected in the diagrams are ascribable to climatic changes, which are common through this country. Taking an instance of the Oze district in Central Honshu, we find three main and one transitional period (viz. cold period, transitional period, warm period and decreasing warmth period). The above mentioned zonation is generally applicable to the other diagrams. Most bogs, except in the central part of Honshu, can be considered to have begun to accumulate during the"warm period". Our zonation may be synchronized with Late Quaternary pollen diagrms from Europe, North America and other regions. Since the European and the North American diagrams are dated, an absolute chronology can in this way be introduced into the Late Quaternary of Japan. "Cold period"corresponds to the end of the last Glacial period (VON POST'S Period I). "Warm peried"corresponds to the post-glacial warm period (von POST'S Period II), and "decreasing warmth period"to the cooler period (von POST'S Period III).
