折れ扉や煽り開き扉のように回転と横移動を伴う形式の扉は,その開閉動作上多くの有利な特性を示すものがある。折れ扉はその折れ目の比率を変えることによって，また煽り開き扉はそのリンクアームの長さを変えることによって，扉の軌跡（ドアスィング）とその面稲を小さくすることができるばかりでなく，扉が風圧を受けた状態で風圧に対して扉を安定させることも可能である。このような扉の風圧に対する安定性は，ドアクローザーの力が小さいもので済むので開閉し易く，このためこれらの扉は狭い場所での利用や，内外でアンバランスな風圧の作用する出入り口の使用に適している。
