Mechanical characteristics of quasi-overconsolidated clays, of which Pleistocene clay of Osaka Bay is typical, are clearly distinguished from over-consolidation clay due to an unloading history. The authors proposed the elasto-viscoplastic 1-dimensional consolidation model which was not based on e-logp relation through combination of both a subloading surface theory and a flow surface theory. The model proposed can express time dependent compression behavior in a quasi-overconsolidated domain. In this paper, applicability to Osaka Bay Pleistocene clay of the model proposed is investigated. As a result, the model proposed can reproduce consolidation behavior of time dependence of clay in a range to be beyond consolidation yield stress from overburden pressure to some extent.

Both ageing and viscous effects on the stress-strain behaviour of clay and their interaction was evaluated by performing 1D compression tests at different strain rates on saturated kaolin without and with cement-mixing cured at zero and different stresses. The strain rate was stepwise changed. The yield stress increased with an increase in the irreversible strain and time during sustained loading. The stress-strain relation immediately after the restart of ML overshot the stress-strain curve from continuous ML for the same strain rate and total curing time. The overshooting stress consisted of viscous stress and strength due to some specific structure that develops during the sustained loading, both decreasing by further straining.

The aim of this paper is to clarify the influence of oxidization of pyrite on the strength of the cohesive soils. In Ishikawa Prefecture northern part, the soil is including much pyrites. We carried out unconfined compression tests on the cohesive soils which included pyrite. The sample that used for experiment was taken at Kitachujo of Tsubata town in Ishikawa Prefecture. From the obtained experimental results, relationships between acidification and the strength properties of soils are considered.

Tensile strength of Kanto loam soil was measured by using a newly developed tensile strength apparatus. Test samples were directly prepared by statically compacting soils within the apparatus itself. Three different dry densities and seven different water contents were considered. Tensile strength - displacement curves were obtained. These curves can be reproduced. Unconfined compression tests were also performed. In case of Kanto loam soil, the highest tensile and unconfined compression strengths were obtained around 50 - 60% of water content. It was found that the unconfined compression strength is nearly 10 to 14 times higher than tensile strength.

To evaluate the stress-strain and strength anisotropy, CIUC, CIUE, CK0UC and CK0UE tests on recomposed soft clay were carried out under different consolidation pressures in normally consolidated stress state. Strength anisotropy due to change of consolidation methods has been observed mainly in total stress condition. Apparently, the non zero cohesion values have been observed in extension tests in both consolidation methods. The curves of undrained strength ratios between extension and compression tests in respect to consolidation pressures decrease under lower stresses and it may become constant under higher stresses.

The method of measuring the initial in-situ elastic deformation characteristic, and evaluating the dependency to the strain and the confining pressure of the rigidity by the laboratory experiment is a basic method. The relation between the in-situ test and the laboratory experiment of shear modulus was examined. For sandy soi, if the void ratio and the average effective stress of in-site are obtained, the in-site shear modulus can be presumed from the relational expression obtained by the laboratory experiment.For the clay soil, the in-site shear modulus is calculated by a function of shear strength and the confining pressure.And, when shear strength becomes about 1000kPa or more, the influence of the confining pressure in the shear rigidity is lost.
