The paper presented recommended load and resistance factors of limit state design (LSD) for reinforced soil structures using two wedge method. The load and resistance factors for the LSD format are calibrated rigorously using advanced first order and second moment method and Monte Carlo simulation with Latin Hypercube Sampling according to the conventional safety factors. As a result, the load and resistance design factors based on the reliability analysis are independent of soil properties and wall heights but dependent on failure mode .

It is important to design the railway structures with high performance of running safety. During earthquakes trains running on the structures are relatively easy to derail, because of the amplification of responses of the structures. In order to design a structure with good running safety performance, an index for safety assessment is needed. In this paper, the behaviour of running railway vehicles under seismic loading is investigated. Based on typical seismic motions the limited velocity and limited spectral intensity of running vehicles are examined. As a result, the rationality of the spectral intensity is verified and a methodology of running safety assessment, which can take the effects of ground in to account, is proposed.

Standardization committee for foundation design in standard division proposes a completely new concept design code for geotechnical engineering and foundation field -nick named Geo-code 21-. Before starting this committee, the research committee for harmonization of foundation design and geotechnical investigation discussed hierarchy of the design code system, management of geotechnical data. These discussion are reflected in the proposed design code. Geo-code 21 has chapters for some foundation types. In these chapters, the items to be considered in the design are written neither too much nor too little. This code will make harmonization of the codes used in each organization and will be a single voice of the Japanese code to the world.

Structural Euro-code will soon be the first area code in the world. This code will have strong influence to ISO codes which will be presented. It means the code will also have the strong influence to the codes in Japan. In JGS, Geo-code 21 has been discussed for our first national foundation code for 7 years. We believe Geo-code 21 can be comparable to EC7. In this paper, we compare EC7 and Geo-code 21 in the sight of performance design concept, aseismic design, collaboration between structural and geotechnical engineers.

The availability of velocity logging using driving impact of dynamic penetration test is investigating by authors. In that study, it was found that the correlation between the number of hammering, such as SPT N-value, and the maximum amplitude of waves observed at ground surface was very high, although the shear waves transmitted through the various stratum and included many kind of waves. In this study, the shear waves were specified by polarization analysis, and then the correlation between the number of hammering by automatic ram sounding and the maximum amplitude of specified shear waves.

Last year, we used synthetic data to illustrate the effectiveness of the finite element method for the three-dimensional electrical resistibility modeling. This year, we performed a filed experiment for the three-dimensional electrical resistibility explosion and apply those filed experiment data in the 3Dinversion analysis. Synthetic and filed data examples indicate that the 3D mapping can provide quantitative information about the electrical resistibility and spatial distributions of the 3D targets.
