The Journal of Japanese Botany
The Journal of Japanese Botany was first
published in April 1916 by Tomitaro Makino. Until 1933, the journal was edited
by Makino himself. Thereafter, Yasuhiko Asahina (1933–1975), Hiroshi Hara
(1975–1987), Shoji Shibata (1987–2006), Hiroyoshi Ohashi (2006–2026), and Jin
Murata (2026–present) have successively served as Editor-in-Chief or Chair of
the Editorial Committee.
The journal has been available on J-STAGE since 2023. In 2025, it transitioned to a platinum open access journal and abolished the embargo period. As a result, all articles published in the journal are now freely available to anyone on J-STAGE.
Among the articles in the digital archive, those published up to Volume 84, Number 3 are based on scanned image data. Accordingly, some text may be difficult to read because of blurred or crowded characters, and some photographs may be difficult to view. In addition, the images have been compressed for online publication and may appear less clear than the originals. We appreciate your understanding when using the archive.
Some articles may contain expressions that could be considered inappropriate or unacceptable in light of current scientific knowledge, social circumstances, or respect for human rights. However, these articles have been included as originally published because they are regarded as materials that document the development of science and the historical context of their time. New scientific names, new Japanese names, and new typifications published in each issue have been listed on the final page or pages of each issue since Volume 94, Number 2 (2019). For Volumes 74 (1999) through 93 (2018), new scientific names and new Japanese names were listed on the second page of the cover of each issue. Indexes from the first issue through Volume 71 (1996) were published separately from the journal as Index to The Journal of Japanese Botany.
