Dwarf bamboo is very useful as ground cover materials. But so far hardly no study has been done with the aim to refine the maintenance of dwarf bamboo, of which the most important is the trimming. This report gives the result of experiments carried out over a period of three years with the trimming of Kokumazasa, which was tried out at several months and in two degrees of intensity, as an attempt to find out a suitable time and intensity in order to obtain the best aesthetic effect.
Usually dwarf bamboo is trimmed at ground level once a year in the middle of March. In addition to this traditional schedule, the result of this experiment gave other alteratives for trimming as follows.
· The trimming at ground level in the end of May is also suitable.
· It seems necessary to combine the trimming at ground level with the trimming at a lighter intensity. Especially, the combination of the trimming at ground level in May and the trimming at a lighter intensity in the summer of every other year has given good results.
