The purpose of this study is to investigate flapping motion of mosquito's wing and flow field around it while beating. We made simulation experiments for beating motion of mosquito using several enlarged models of different scale which were set in a very low speed wind tunnel under the condition that Reynolds and Strouhal numbers were made equal to those of real mosquito. Flow fields around the model wings moving up and down or flapping were visualized using smoke and laser light sheet and they were analyzed by a PIV system. It was observed that unsteady vortices were generated on the upper surface of the model wing in the period of downstroke. We compared the flow fields around the realistic wing model during the up-and-down motion and flapping motion, and .furthermore compare the lift forces of real mosquito and the model wings.

Since 1995, FaxenLaboratoriet has been one of 28 Centres of Excellence partially funded by the Swedish government's Agency for Innovation Systems. It has specialized in research into fluid mechanics in the process industries, related in particular to paper technology, materials processing and electrochemical processes-three areas of strategic importance for Sweden. Over the ten-year period, around 30 industrial companies have participated in the Centre's research activities, at one time or another. This talk presents some of FaxenLaboratoriet's experiences of academic-industrial cooperation, demonstrating that, on the whole, it is certainly possible to do business with fluid mechanics.

In Kanazawa University, Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan (F-JSAE) is tentatively introduced in the curricula as contribution to the development of engineers-"project trained"-"hands-on" engineers. The briefs of F-JSAE and F-SAE were written in this paper and the treatment of F-JSAE in the curricula was discussed. As the results, we should change the balance between the educations and the researches in universities. Most of the students need high-quality advanced educations and want to be good engineers. More over, our society needs the educations for the professional development in universities. However, teachers in universities want to make researchers of their majors.
