Because three-dimensional rotational anglography (3D-RA) is simple and economical, it is currently used to evaluate vascular systems during coil embolization of cerebral arterial aneurysm in a routine clinical practice. Embolization of gastro-renal shunt by balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (B-RTO) technique is sometimes risky, since it can cause rupture of the varices by blocking a blood outflow from the varices.
By applying the 3D-RA tecnique to B-RTO, we succeeded in the simultaneous visualization of both varices and connected outflow venules and the implementation of safe B-RTO in 5 patients with gastric varices. Thus, the 3D-RA is useful for safe B-RTO treatment.
