1). In Northern Formosa (Pref. Taihoku, Shinchiku), subcutaneous tumors occur among young ducks, mostly on the chin, thigh, etc.
In the connective-tissue of these subcutaneous tumors the anther observed a nematode parasite,
Oshimaia taiwana (Sugimoto, 1919). As this species does not agree with any other species belonging to superfamily
Filarioidea, therefore
Oshimaia was established as a new genus of the family
Philometridae Baylis & Daubney.
This Filariasis prevails in the warmer seasons, especially from April to May, and again from September to October.
2). On August 12, 1933, Mr. K. Ninomiya discoverd a microfilaria in the blood-stream of hen at Tansui (Pref. Taihoku), and sent specimens to me for determination of the species.
I identified the species with
Filaria seguini (Mathis & Léger, 1909), which was first discovered by the authors at Hanoi (Tonking). In the present paper a redescription and figures of the species will be given.
Its life history is unknown, and its pathogenesis is nil. In accordance with Mathis & Léger, I am inclined to believe that this microfilaria has something to do with
Oxyspirura mansoni (Cobbold, 1878) as the adult stage, but neither Mr. Ninomiya nor I could find the latter in the eyes of the hen.
