Recently, an increasing number of patients are being diagnosed to have pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) either during or after adolescence in Japan. However, a substantial percentage of those patients are reluctant to access available social resources due to an insufficient recognition of the necessity to seek appropriate treatment. We herein report our a group activity trial which was carried out in a psychiatric day hospital (comprising 22 sessions). The main goal of this trial was to educate the participating PDD patients in order to help them better understand their individual symptoms and providing them with the necessary knowledge so that they can improve and increase their degree of normal social participation.By the end of the program, most of the participants had begun to access some social resources, possibly facilitated by individual consultations, the use of an original worksheet and the real experience of being assisted by our group activity.
