Recently, how to help bedridden people is becoming an urgent problem as the number of aged people is rapidly increasing in Japan. Especially, locomotive lifters and robots for the disabled are needed in order to transfer patients from a bed to a wheel chair, abathtub, a lavatory and so on. This paper describes an evaluation method of the locomotive lifters which can be applied to Japanese home and to the bodysize of Japanes epeople. A prototype lifter made in Denmark was reformed to adapt it to such Japanese circumstances. Next, mechanical stability and convenience in handling it were evaluated from the viewpoint of mechanical engineering and human engineering. Through this evaluation, it was found that the reformed lifter was useful in lifting and trnasferring Japanese patients inside hospitals.
