Li4SiO4 with various particle sizes were synthesized at various temperatures by solid state method. Reaction rate constant was estimated by measurement of CO2 absorption by thermogravimetry. A tendency was found that the reaction rate of the samples with small particle size is larger than that of the samples with larger particle size in the case of same measurement temperature. It was found by Arrhenius plot that the reaction rate drastically increased when measurement temperature was over melting temperature of Li2CO3 in samples.

Study of environment correspondence low melting point lead-free functionability fritted colorsWe studied the hydrogen sulfide gas-resistant colors for the painting from the viewpoint of lead-free glass composition and characteristics.In this study, we examined the reaction characteristics between low melting point lead-free fritted colors (included experimental drawing samples) and hydrogen sulfide gas. As a result, the coloration change by the hydrogen sulfide gas of the experimental drawing samples was hardly admitted. And the experimental production colors showed fine hydrogen sulfide gas-resistant characteristics.

Mechanical strength of Na-beta-alumina ceramics revealed to be enhanced up to 50% by ion exchange of Na+ions by larger K+ ions. The maximum strength was 480 Mpa which can be easily degraded by simple annealing at moderate temperature. The increased mechanical strength was dependent on the internal stress. From an encironmental perspective, this material has advantages because its mechanical strength is readily reduced by a simple thermal treatment.

Recent increase of environmental concerns, i.e. shortage of forest resources and irreparable destruction of nature, highlights the need to develop new materials as an alternative for hard wood (e.g. grenadilla wood with Q-1=0.007 and E=16GPa). As a practicable material, wollastonite ceramics based composite was also developed. It has wood-like properties such as high machinability, sound velocity and damping capacity. We apply the wollastonite ceramic composite for musical instruments.

New phosphor applications, typically electronic displays or white light-emitting diodes (LEDs), have brought us dreams to develop new phosphors. For white LED phosphors, many new materials may be found in nitrides, but some good idea can produce new oxide phosphors as well. For VUV excitation, progress has been done in understanding of luminescence and degradation processes. And yet many problems remain unsolved and prevent from development of new phosphors; for example, determination of species and concentration of nonstoichiometry or defects and their effects upon luminescent properties. Interdisciplinary cooperation is desired to solve these problems to make dreams come true.

We propose a novel process to fabricate micropatterns of spherical particle assemblies. Hydrophilic regions of a patterned self-assembled monolayer were covered with methanol solution containing SiO2 particles and immersed in decalin to control the shape of droplets and gradually dissolve the methanol into decalin. Interfacing of methanol/decalin and shrinkage of methanol droplets were utilized to obtain meniscus force to form spherical particle assemblies; additionally, its static solution system allowed precise control of the conditions. Particles were assembled to form spherical shapes on hydrophilic regions of an SAM and consequently, micropatterns of spherical particle assemblies were successfully fabricated through self-assembly. This patterned two-solution process has the advantages of both a drying process having meniscus force and a static solution process having high controllability.

Composite TiN-TiB
2 films were prepared on Si(100) and WC-Co substrates at about 800
oC by a thermal plasma chemical vapor deposition involving the injection of metal alkoxide solutions into a thermal Ar/H
2/N
2 plasma. The phases and composition of the films were determined by XRD and XPS. The surface and cross-section of the films were observed by SEM. Vickers microhardness of the films were evaluated by microhardness test.
