A local structure of annealed asbestos was characterized by Fe Mössbauer, XRD, XRF, and DTA techniques. From the Mössbauer spectrum, a drastic increase in absorption area of paramagnetic Fe2+
was observed from 0 to 68.2 % after an annealing at 1300 oC for 100 min. Changes in chemical oxygen demand (COD), oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), and pH were measured when the asbestos was soaked into an artificial drain.

Titanium oxide known as photocatalyst materials has three crystal.
But the inner Brookite type is not studied too much by manufacture being difficult.
We synthesis Brokite type titanium oxide from a chlorination titanium (_III_) water solution in this study.
Furthermore, we found what could control a crystal system to generate by bringing up amorphous titanium oxide with different solution of pH.

The behavior of the BCN compound , which was synthesized by thermal decomposition of melamine diborate, as electrode of the lithium ion battery and the electric double layer condenser have been examined by the cyclic voltammetry and the chronoamperometry. The specific capacitance of ca. 27.4 F/g of the BCN was obtained.

Thermally and chemically stable phenylsilsesquioxane (PhSiO3/2) particles were prepared by sol-gel process, and a highly proton conducting oxide-nanocluster of phosphotungstic acid (WPA) was deposited on the PhSiO3/2 particles via layer-by-layer assembly technique. A transparent and monolithic sheet can be obtained from the resultant core-shell particles by pressing. Proton conductivity of the monolithic sample with five-layered WPA was about 10- 3 S/cm at 80 oC and 80 % relative humidity (RH).

Perovskite-type MTiO
3 nanocrystalline particles were hydrothermally prepared at highly-concentrated KOH solution. Surface morphology and crystalline phase of the samples prepared were investigated by FE-SEM and X-ray powder diffractometer. The phases found in the samples were summarized as the functions of reaction temperature and keeping time. Defect of MTiO

Semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) are attracting increasing attention as fluorescent materials. However, many of these materials contain toxic elements (Cd, Pb, Se etc). In this study, to obtain fluorescent NCs without toxic elements, we tried to synthesize CuInS2 NCs. The NCs were successfully obtained by a simple method, i.e., heating organic metal complexes. The photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield obtained was 6 %. The PL spectra suggested that the emission originated from the defect structure of CuInS2. To clarify the relationship between optical property and structure of products, we analyzed the structure of the NCs.

Reaction of n-dodecylamine into the interlayer space of H2W2O7·nH2O by a solid-solid reaction was investigated. Reactions were completed within 7days irrespective of the n-dodecylamine/H2W2O7·nH2O ratio. XRD analysis showed the c axes of all the samples changed and (110) reflection did not shift after the reactions. Depending on the n-dodecylamine/H2W2O7·nH2O ratio, two phases with different c axes were observed.

In order to fabricat liquid crystal display device, patterning of zinc oxide (ZnO) is necessary. ZnO filmes were prepared from zinc acetate chemically modified with IB/I-diketones by sol-gel method. The gel filmes obtained absorption at around 250-320nm. Patterns could be fabricated by UV-irradiation through a mask and leaching.

The synthesis of the titanium carbide nanoparticles was tried using the coordination compounds which consist of organic substance and titanium alkoxide. The precursor which prepared by titanium tetraisopropoxide and salicylic acid as carbon source were dried and heated under vacuum at 1623K for 4 hours. The powders got by the heat treatment were consisted of titanium carbides without titanium oxides and the average particle size was about 35nm, which agrees with the value determined by X-ray diffraction measurement.

It is necessary for encapsulants to have not only a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) suitable to IC devices and a low dielectric constant to reduce the device propagation delay, but also a high thermal conductivity to dissipate large amounts of heat from power-hungry, high-speed IC and high-density packages. Fillers such as silica have been mixed with polymers to improve their properties. Aluminum nitride (AlN) is considered as an alternative one, because it has a higher theoretical thermal conductivity of 320 W/mK, a compatible CTE with silicon chips and a low dielectric constant. Recently, we successfully obtained single-crystalline spherical AlN fillers. Furthermore, polymer composites filled with the spherical AlN showed excellent thermal conductivity (>8W/mK) as encapsulants for dissipating the heat generated in electronic devices.
