Wettability is an important phenomenon of solid surfaces. The interaction of water with hydrophobic surface was evaluated by Molecular orbital (MO) and Molecular dynamics (MD) calculations. Clusters of C13H22 and C13F22 were used for the model clusters for MO calculation. The water molecule was placed center of the substrate cluster. The distance of water molecule and the surface hydrogen or fluorine was set to be 1.0-8.0A. The water molecule could not be separated from the surface of C13F22 cluster. CH4 and CF4 molecules in water cell were used for the typical model for MD calculation. Under 1 ns calculations, there were no difference in radial distributions for CH4 and CF4 calculations.

12 (BiT) has attracted much attention because of a large spontaneous polarization along the a axis. Defects such as oxygen vacancies and holes, however, impede polarization switching by electric field, leading to a poor polarization property. It was attempted to prepare BiT single crystals with few lattice defects. BiT single crystals were grown by a flux method under oxygen partial pressure of 10atm. The leakage properties and ferroelectric properties were investigated. In the poster presentation, we will discuss the dependence of the polarization properties of BiT crystals on the oxygen partial pressure of crystal growth.

Reflection intensities for cross-section of multi-layer ceramic capacitors were measured at GHz region by using a non-contact microwave probe. The microwave probe was scanned perpendicular to the sample surface with distance of 0.2 mm and detected the reflection intensities that indicate dielectric constant of the sample. The dielectric mappings showed the inner dielectric and electrodes of cross-section of multi-layer ceramic capacitors. The noise reduction of dielectric mapping was carried out using Fourier analysis using discrete Fourier transformation. The Fourier transformed image showed a power distribution as a function of space frequency. Noise reduction was considered for the Fourier transformed images in the view of space frequency.

In order to apply high-Q and high-epsiron Ba4.2Sm9.2Ti18O54 (BSmT) ceramics to the miniaturized microwave applications, we tried to prepare BSmT and BSmT-TiO2 mixture thick films on FR4 substrates by Aerosol Deposition Method (ADM) at room temperature. And we measured those dielectric properties by ring resonator method. As a result, BSmT and BSmT-TiO2 mixture thick films were prepared from the primary particle size of 2.5mm BSmT and 0.5um TiO2 at the condition of 4.0 l/min carrier gas flow. And we obtained -89.7 ppm/oC as the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of BSmT AD thick films.

Effect of Fe substitution on the dielectric properties of Ba(Mg
1/3Ta
2/3)O
3 system was investigated at microwave frequency. Permittivity was increased and Qf value was abruptly decreased with Fe substitution. Also electric conduction was confirmed in this system with high Fe concentration. Dielectric loss of lattice vibration obtained from far infrared spectrum could not explain the abrupt decreasing of Qf value at microwave frequency. It was discussed that the decreasing Qf value was due to increasing the electric conduction or other contribution to the materials.

Mn-substituted titania nanosheets were synthesized and their magnetic properties were examined. A layered compound of K
0.8Mn
0.6Ti
1.4O
4 with the lepidocrocite type structure was synthesized by solid-state calcination. The protonic form, which was prepared by acid exchange, was exfoliated by reaction with a tetrabuthylammonium hydroxide solution. AFM observation revealed unilamellar nanosheets with a lateral size of up to 500 x 1000nm and a thickness about 1.2nm. In the UV-vis spectrum, absorption bands were observed at about 260nm, 330nm and 560nm.

Alcohol cracking reactions were performed on iron metal nano-wires as a catalyst. Nano-sized carbon beads were formed on the surface of catalysts and iron metal changed to carbide by reaction with carbon species. The resulting carbon nano-beads and iron nanowires composites showed good electromagnetic wave absorption properties in a SHF region by hybridizing the dielectric (carbon) and magnetic (iron carbide) components.
