The Social Counselling Department in Hizen National Sanatorium invited 22 patient's families to present at Family Meeting.
These patients were all in the reconvalescent stage of schizophrenia in which 17 members could be collected.
Many mothers are found among the families presenting at most cases of families visit to Sanatorium once a month.
When patients have been discharged, a number of families complained of a prejudice of their neighbours. From this point of view the psychiatrist ought to encourage the development of mental health in our community.
At every time of Family Meeting, all patients, families and staffs (Doctor, Nurse, and Case-worker) took lunch with together, so that we could be precipitated by friendly feelings, thus they could have creative motivation in social work.
The Family Meeting could not be evaluated with proper quantity, like life-guidance, occupational therapy, and psycho-therapy. But this method should be developed more and more in Japan jor the future.
