は半翅で，口吻をもつことが最大の特徴だが，このほかにも臭くて集合性をもつ等の一般的なイメージがある．害虫管理の面から考察すると，吸収口を持ち，外部消化をおこなう性質は動植物の収量・品質に悪影響をもたらすことを意味する．嗅覚を情報交換や防除手段の基礎とする性質は，そのにおいを嫌うものには不快害虫になり，群れていればさらに嫌われる．そして，カメムシが半翅を持つことはその多様性，すなわちヒトにとっての害虫種群の豊富さ・防除手法の煩雑さにつながる．カメムシ類には同翅亜目同様，音響交信する種が多いことはあまり知られていないの特徴だが，音響や視覚，触覚接触といった情報交換が求愛行動に組み込まれているカメムシの性質は，フェロモン利用によるカメムシ類防除を困難にしている一因と思われる．

プラタナスグンバイは北アメリカ原産で，日本では2001年に愛知県で初めて発生が確認され，九州から北海道までの範囲に地理的分布を拡大した．本種の成虫および幼虫は，プラタナスの葉裏を吸汁加害することにより，葉を白化させる．本種が発生するプラタナスは，日本では街路樹として人通りの多い場所に植えられており，京都府のプラタナスに隣接した住宅では，テラスに干した洗濯物や布団に成虫が飛来するため，不快害虫にもなっている．また，そこで殺虫剤を直接植物体へ散布しない防除技術の確立を目的として，2008年に京都市内の街路に植栽されているプラタナスにおいて，チアメトキサム液剤（400 mL/m³および600 mL/m³）の樹幹注入処理を行い，本種に対する防除効果を調べた．その結果，どちらの注入量でも，本種の成虫および幼虫の発生を処理138日後まで抑えた．

小笠原諸島のカメムシ（カメムシ目

）に関しては，近年になっても相次ぐ新種の発表によって記録種数は増加しているにもかかわらず，2000年以降では昆虫目録が出版されるたびに掲載種数が減少するという齟齬が生じている．これは，各昆虫目録で種を記録した文献の見落としがあったり，種名が未定の種に対する掲載基準が異なったりすることに起因していると考えられ，結果的に種数を巡る現状は混乱していると言える．そこで，これまでに出版された文献を網羅的に精査および整理するとともに，近年追加された種の情報を盛り込んだ小笠原諸島産目録を作成した．本目録では25科87種を認めた．このうち25種が固有種であることから，昆虫のなかでは高い固有種率であることがカメムシ相の特徴と言える．15島からカメムシが記録されており，そのうち父島と母島（有人島）はそれぞれ69種と59種であったが，その他の島（無人島）は26種以下であった．グリーンアノール等の侵略的外来生物による生態系への負の影響が続くなか，小笠原諸島における種多様性の解明と保全のために網羅的な野外調査が引き続き必要である．

Orius sauteri is used as a biological control agent against agricultural pests such as thrips and whiteflies. We investigated the spectral wavelength preference of O. sauteri in a hexagonal arena equipped with six LED lights of different colors: UV (365 nm), violet (405 nm), blue (450 nm), green (525 nm), orange (590 nm), and red (660 nm). Adults were released in the center of the arena and their phototactic behavior toward the LED lights was observed. Approximately 50% of non-mated individuals moved toward the violet light, with no difference between sexes. The spectral preference of males did not change after mating, whereas the preference of females changed dramatically from violet to UV after three days' mating.

The female of subsocial shield bug, Parastrachia japonensis (Heteroptera: Cydnidae) provides many drupes of the host tree for its nymphs. Our previous study revealed that female bug foraged tortuously until it had encountered a ripe drupe and the homing bug brought it back to its burrow directly. We here investigated the progressive change of her homing navigation comparing the several behavioural elements at the earlier and later periods during its provisioning season. The 'homing direction', the angles between the longitudinal axis of the bug dragging a drupe and the burrow direction, was measured and showed no apparent difference between the two periods. On the way to home, the bug suddenly stopped at the 'searching point' and changed its directional walking behaviour. The distance between the 'searching point' and its burrow was constant whole through the provisioning season. However, the 'homing speed' of the directional homing was slightly increased in the later homing. In addition, the 'searching time', the walking time from the 'searching point' to its burrow entrance, decreased in the later homing. These results indicate that the particular behavioural elements taking at the two different homing navigation stages in the P. japonensis are progressively changed during provisioning period.

Only one male adult of Riptortus clavatus and no adults of Piezodorus hybneri, both of which are the most important pests of soybean, were found among the leaf litter samples collected at a copse during the winter season for 14 years to estimate the overwintering adult density of Plautia crossota stali, one of the most important pests of tree fruits. Of the 483 bugs found, 339, 70 (fifith instar), 31 and 19 were P. crossota stali, Poecilocoris lewisi, Acanthosoma denticauda and Sastragala esakii, respectively. The result strongly suggested that the main overwintering site of the two soybean pests might be different from that of P. crossota stali, presumably the soybean pests overwinter at a forest edge or near the roots of dry Japanese pampas grass.
