In Japan, various organizations in the public and private sectors conduct surveys to
measure the level of awareness of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs), among their employees. This study quantitatively analyzed the results of a
survey conducted in August 2020, among employees of Shinkin banks who are actively
involved in promoting the SDGs, to determine the level of awareness and penetration
of the SDGs among employees, by attribute. We analyzed the relationship between
the survey results and the degree of penetration of the SDGs, by attribute, through
cross-tabulation and independence tests. A comparative analysis of survey responses
from 1,227 employees revealed a higher level of penetration of the SDGs among male
employees, compared with their female counterparts. Moreover, responses from middle-aged and older employees reflected a higher level of penetration of the SDGs, than in
younger employees, with no significant difference based on affiliation.
