Relations between the lateral response of a transport airplane to side gust and its lateral and directional stability, and the effect of yaw damper were studied. (i) Dutch-roll and spiral stability characteristics, (ii) transfer functions of rolling and yawing response to side gust, (iii) power spectral densities and root mean square values of rolling and yawing in the atmospheric turbulence were calculated on transport-airplanes, having different values of lateral and directional stability. Also, (iv) calculations of gust response by making use of analogcomputor were made.
