An anti-f antibody found in a Japanese post-operative patient with gastric cancer, aged 65 years, is reported. He had a history of blood transfusion during the operation in October 1984.
His serum was found probably to contain IgG and IgM antibodies with anti-f specifity and anti-I, in May 1985. The anti-f was detected by low ionic strength polybren (LISP) method on the Auto Analyzer (AAII) but not by saline, albumin, bromelin, and indirect antiglobulin technique in a manual.
Testing blood from 200 donors by the AAII, his serum agglutinated 16 blood samples (8%) of phenotype CcDee and ccDEe.
Anti-f antibody is frequently found as a secondary antibody in most anti-c and anti-e sera, but this case is unique because his serum contains anti-f only.
A low ionic strenght polybren method was employed to detect Rh antibody.
