More than sixty years have passed since the production of nonwovens began in Japan. Up to 2000, the nonwovens industry in Japan had been developing steadily. After that, the industry experienced a brief slowdown, but it began to grow again, and marked historical records consecutively from 2006 to 2008. Although the industry stopped growing and decreased in 2009 due to simultaneous declines in the world’s economies, the industry has been showing a recovery since then. Japan’s nonwovens production amounted to 343,000 tons in 2018, slightly surpassing the record production volume made in 2017. The situation of the textile industry is changing worldwide, and the nonwovens industry has to correspond to the change also. The environmental issue is important for nonwovens industry particularly.
