Novel carbon-containing supported Ni catalysts were prepared by the sol-gel method using PEG and alkoxide of aluminum, silicon, titanium and zirconium. When the amount of PEG added increased and the amount of alkoxide decreased, the activities increased for alumina, titania and zirconia. The carbon and alumina-containing catalyst exhibited the highest activity while boehmite was observed after the reaction. The carbon and titania and zirconia-containing catalysts also exhibited stable and high activity. Their structure did not change even after the reaction.
