This article presents a depiction of the realities in the new narrative thematic of humanity and warfare, reflecting on the unique life history and life story of an ex-soldier who deserted the former Japanese Army. The totalizing nature of modern warfare embroils even civilians in its conflicts, which become an inescapable element of daily life. The vivid memories of wartime cannot be avoided even after war has ended. Listening to a deserter's story, we can truly understand how difficult it is, once a war has broken out, to remain a bystander or to escape the war through desertion. Moreover, the deserter's life story illuminates the suffering of a man who became more entangled in war than many peers only because he deserted the army.
