    In present paper, some noticeable aberrant forms of Papilio nepheles chaonulus, P. helenus fortunius, P. protenor amaurus, and a new important species of Neptis in Formosa are described. P. chaonulus includes the numerous forms, of which No.1, No.2, No.3, No.4, No.5 etc., are new to science. In ♀-f.No.1, underside on forewing, appears the white diagonal band from costa to outer margin. On hindwing, appears the obscure greyish yellow crescent markings in outer submarginal area and the same colour marking near anal angle. Underside of forewing bears the transverse white band as on upperside. Ab. No.1 is apparently very similar to ab. horina, in which the submarginal yellow crescent markings on underside of hindwing extend inwards to approach or fuse the white markings, but differs from it in having the white markings, which extend outwards to approach or fuse the submarginal yellow crescent markings. On upperside of hindwing also, ab. No.1 have much outwards extending large markings, on the contrary, the markings of hindwing on upperside in ab. horina are constantly normal. Tail of hindwing in ab. No.1 tends to become short. Ab. No.3 is a form in which all submarginal yellow crescent markings of hindwing on underside changed to darkish yellow. In ab. No.4, the same crescent markings as well as whitish yellow markings near anal angle changed to white. In ab. No.5. the same crescant markings extend to outend to outer margin, becoming the large patches, which bear the greyish yellow scales. We have two deformities of chaonulus. In only right hindwing on both sides of them, the white markings extend towards the discoidal cell. Papilio helenus fortunius have two aberrant forms. Ab. No.8, is a form extinguishing all submarginal red crescent markings on hindwing of underside. In contrast with it, ab. No.9, have the same red crescent markings extending inwards to become large patches. To Papilio protenor amaurus belong ab. No.10, and ab. kagaribi Nakahara. In the former, all markings of hindwing on underside disappeared, the latter have much enlarged red markings of the same. The race amaurus is usually tailless in hindwing, and have very rarely a tail, however this tail does not so perfectly produce as in the Japanese race demetrius. It is shorter and narrower than in demetrius. Normal form of demetrius has the tail, but rarely the tail degenerates to become short and narrow size (ab. tokionis), which is quite same as the tailed form of amaurus. Probably, ab, tokionis suggests the prototype of protenor before the two races demetrius and amaurus differentiate. Here I give the description of a new species, Neptis disparalis, from Poli, Central Formosa. The type-specimen was misidentified, by A. Shibatani (1943) as Neptis mahendra reducta, and by T. Shirozu (1960) as a spring form of Neptis soma lutatia. The new species is very allied to N. soma lutatia, but all white markings are more developed. On upperside of forewing, the white streak in discoidal cell is more distinct, becomes bold in tip. The white markings of interspaces 1b,3,5,6,7 are larger. The central white band of hindwing is much distinct, becomes bold from inner margin to outer one. All white markings of both wings on upperside look somewhat pale. Ground colour of underside is lighter. The central white band of hindwing on underside does not pass in the base of interspace 4 (passes in soma lutatia). The process in the tip of valve, of male genitalia, is wider, and the ventral process is sharper than the allied Neptis species such as aceris, soma lutatia, yerburyi, nandina formosana, etc.

    (1) The writer got on board from Feb. 18 to March 9, 1948 and investigated ecologically Red Gurnards in the Yellow Sea.
    (2) Popularly called Gurnards, Lepidotrigla microptera, form dense schools in the SouthernYellow Sea in winter, and these schools do not migrate to the lower latitude than 32°30'N.
    (3) Body length composition was in the range of 9.6-29.6cm and the most abandantly capt-ured individuals measured 13.0-27.0cm in length. Average body length of the female was 19.78±3.24cm, and that of the male was 19.78±2.185cm. The male amount to 56.67% of the whole.
    (4) Relation between body length and weight was represented as follows:

    Average number of incubation was 140, 000, and diameter of ovum was comparatively sm-all being less than 0.8mm.
    (6) In the fishing season body length was various according to depth. Schools of big gurnards have a tendency to travel in deep water and small ones in shallow.
    (7) The proper depth for catch was in the range of 65-70m, and the best depth for catch was 69m. And composition of body length of the fish caught in the depth of 65-70m were 20. 10±2.408cm.
    (8) Quantative variation of catch according to age of the moon was found. (Fig. 7). Kindsand quantity of bait were also changeable. (Fig. 8).

    All materials dealt in the present paper, were sent by Mr. YU CHING KIN and Mr. WEISOU CHUNG to whom we must express sincerely many thanks. Salatura yuchingkini sp. nov. ♀ In appearance, this species has intermediate characters, between Limnas chrysippus and Salatura genutia. Upperside forewing, white markings in apex area very resembles chrysippus. All veins of both wings are brownish black as in genutia, but not so bold. Underside, apex area yellowish pale, reddish ground colour of both wings yellowish orange as chrysippus, not so deep as genutia. Genitalia valva strong chitinous, large and slender, having the curved hook projection at the lower edge. Tacoraea eupolia sp. nov. ♂ The arrangement of all markings in both wings, upperside as well as underside, is nearly the same as selenophora laela ♀, but each marking more developed, white markings of interspaces 1 & 2 in hindwing somewhat yellowish. Genitalia, valva somewhat large, sacculus not so constricted, laciniate projections on the board like projection very distinct. Salpinx leucostictos botelianus ssp. nov. ♀ Differs from the Formosan mainland race hobsoni in having very reduced purple markings, marginal white spot band in hindwing of holotype nearly disappears. Ochiodes siva yuchingkina ssp. nov. ♂ In this time, the species siva is at first recorded from Formosa. The semitransparent marking in interspace 3 of forewing on upperside larger, marking on discocellular of forewing is エ shaped. Underside, markings in interspace 3 of forewing, interspaces 2 & 3 of hindwing larger than the original race from Naga Hills. The marking on discocellular of forewing splits in two small spots in Ochiodes subhyalina formosana. Papilio dialis andronicus ab. neotatsuta, nov. ♂ Extremely beautiful aberrant form. Hindwing on underside as tatsuta NAKAHARA (Zephyrus, 9. (2) 1, p1. 5,) but on upperside bearing the wide purplish red crescent markings in interspaces 1, 2, 3 & 4, the wide purplish blue crescent markings in interspace 6 near outer margin, in interspace 5 mixing blue and red colours. Hypolimnas bolina kezia ab. yokoojii NOMURA ♀ Hitherto no examples have been found except for the type specimen, so our material is the second example from Formosa. Polyura eudamippus formosana ab. eclepsis nov. ♂ Both wings on upper-and underside, are hazed by dark purplish veil, yellowish ground colour becomes grey on upperside, leaden gray on underside. Sumalia dudu jinamitra ab. neojina nov. ♂ White bands of both wings much reduced, the white markings in interspaces 4, 5, 6 of forewing, in interspaces 6,7 of hindwing vanished. Cyrestis thyodamas formosana ab. ambustus nov. ♂ Very remarkable nigrescent form. There are some light parts only in interspaces 1, 2, 3 of forewing. Crastia godarti garampiana MURAYAMA (comb. nov.) In "TyO To Ga" (Tran. Lep. Soc. Jap.), 11 (4) : 56, this race was belonged to the species core, but it is more fitting that garampiana is attached to godarti. In this time, the male is at first recorded from Formosa. Euthalia formosana FRUHST. ab. nugatoris MURAYAMA The type (Tyo To Ga, 11(4) : 58, f. 26) was very worn, so here the complete specimen ♀ is illustrated. Papilo polytes pasikrates FRUHST. ab. gynaiensis nov. ♂ Underside of hindwing, submarginal red markings extend inside and fuse with white markings. Papiliio polytes pasikrates FRUHST. ab. baikeiensis nov. ♀ Upperside of hindwing, submarginal markings, as well as red markings at anal angle, in the base of interspaces 1 & 2, of normal female form almost turn white. Vanessa indica HERBST ab. horishana NIRE Hitherto no examples except the type 4 have been recorded. in this time 5 specimens (1♂4♀) were examined. Sasakia charonda ssp. Many specimens of the Formosan race were found in this time. Very similer to coreana LEECH, but differs from it in having much larger white markings in the central area on hindwing of upperside.

    ベンゲットアゲハPapilio benguetanaは1923年J. J. JOICEYとG. TALBOTによってEntomologist第56巻に記載きれて以来,採集された標本はいずれも雄ばかりであった. 1965年5月,筆者は原田基弘氏と共にフィリピン,ルソン島のパウアイへ採集を試みたが,その折採集した20頭の本種の中に原田氏により捕えられた1頭の無傷の雌があった.我々はこの雌を展翅標本にすべきか,人工採卵を試みようかと迷ったが,結局後者を選んだ.末交尾であったこの雌は雄と交尾きせた後,採卵のためのあらゆる手段が採られたが不幸にしてそれらは不成功に終り,雌は大破して標本としての価値を失った.幸い1971年,同地へ採集を試みた郡司芳明氏は,完全な2頭の雌を採集することに成功,これらの標本を贈与して下さった.本稿を草するに当って原田基弘,郡司芳明両氏の無私な御協力に深謝の意を表し,このような貴重な標本を採集された功績を讃えたい.また日頃御懇切な御指導を賜わる日本鱗翅学会々長,九州大学教養部教授白水隆博士,国立科学博物館黒沢良彦博士に対し深甚の謝意を表する.

    Bei zahlreichen Kaninchen injizierte der Verfasser 5 cc von Lanolin oder Lezithin (20% ige wässerige Lösung) pro kg Körpergewicht wiederholt ins Unterhautgewebe, und zwar einmal einen Tag um den andern. Nach verschiedener Zeitlänge der Behandlung wurden die Tiere getötet, um ihre Lebern nach der Uransilbermethode von Cajal zu untersuchen. Daraus ergibt sich folgendes:
    Bei Lanolininjektionen zeigt der Golgische Apparat zuerst eine gute Entwicklung (Fig. 1), die am 18. Tage der Behandlung ihr Maximum erreicht (Fig. 2), wobei mehrere feine Apparatkörnchen sich zu grösseren Körnern vereinigen. Gleichzeitig sieht man, dass die Blutkapillaren in der Leber sich stark erweitern und infolgedessen das Lebergewebe etwas locker wird. Aber von 21. Tag der Behandlung an beginnt der Apparat eine Rückbildung zu erfahren und tritt allmählich in den Hintergrund (Fig. 3 u. 4).
    Diese Erscheinung ist so zu deuten, dass der Golgische Apparat, der höchst wahrscheinlich mit der Cholesterinbildung zu tun hat, zuerst infolge der Einfuhr von cholesterinhaltigem Lanorin seinen Bestandteil aufspeichert, später aber wegen der Ungebräuchlichkeit seiner Funktion einer Rückbildung unterworfen wird.
    Das Umgekehrte gilt für die Lezithinbehandlung, welche in erster Linie den Zerfall des Golgischen Apparates zur Folge hat. Am 18. Tage der Behandlung sieht man, dass der Apparat der Leberzellen fast gänzlich verschwindet (Fig. 6). Bei weiterer Fortsetzung der Behandluug tritt der Apparat wieder aufs neue auf und entwickelt sich allmählich stärker (Fig. 7 u. 8).
    Diese Tatsache ist darauf zurückzuführen, dass Lezithin gegen Cholesterin antagonistisch wirkt und daher ihr Mengenverhältnis im Blut ein bestimmtes sein muss. Durch Einfuhr von Lezithin muss die Ausscheidung von Cholesterin aus dem Golgischen Apparate energisch vor sich gehen, was anfangs zur Verminderung, spätèr aber zur starken Entwicklung des Apparates Anlass gibt.

    According to Moriatsu Hayashi, in his writing 'Gasen' (1712), "Although Motonobu Kano used 'Solar-Lunar' motif in screens, it is now forbidden to use them in our school." He says nothing else. Why this motif had to be forbidden? Historians suppose some purposes of this motif-religeous, lyrical, or decorative. But from these points of vue, we could not grasp the ground of this prohibition. Therefore I tried to look for another reason. It is true that this motif appears in some paintings used for special ceremonies at the Imperial Court. Shimenoyama (artificial products) at Daijoe is the typical case. The 'Solar-Lunar' motif was then painted on each Shimenoyama product, and furthermore these products were designed by painters of the art bureau at the Court. This fact explains that the 'Solar-Lunar' motif is the limited as one signifying regality itself. For this reason, we can understand the oral tradition of M. Hayashi, and that this 'Solar-Lunar' motif is not a decorative but emblematic one.
