In this paper, exploring the thought of Friedrich Schlegel (1772-1829), I discuss the concept of das Unendliche, which plays a central role in his neue Mythologie, and try to clarify that die neue Mythologie could work in the correct way only, when it is in a close, well-communicated relationship. Schlegel said, Nur durch Beziehung aufs Unendliche entsteht Gehalt und Nutzen;. For him, das Unendliche was not a rhetoric or fiction. And die neue
Mythologie were diverse ways to das Unendliche, which everyone could (or should) walk in its own way. Therewer die neue Mythologie needs the idea of das Unendliche as its presupposition. To share the idea of das Unendliche, it was needed a close, well-communicated relationship-and its model was Schlegel and his partner. Thus, Schlegel's neue Mythologie could work only in a close relationship, but in the strict sense, this relationship is not perfect. There was always something in-communicable even in this close relationship.
