    In order to supply Owase Power Plant of Chubu Electric Co.with fuel oil, Toho Oil Co.has constructed at the Bay of Owase a mooring terminal, pipe one and their additional equipments which enable 100, 000-ton-sized tankers to be moored.As a background of the construction of these main equipments, the author first describes the geographical features and meterological conditions at Owase Bay, and then outlines the design of the terminal, its type, structure of pipe terminal and piping.

    Corrosion and erosion problems appear to be encountered in the coal liquefaction processes are briefly reviewed referring to the open literature. Corrosion and erosion have been the major cause of troubles experienced in the operating liquefaction pilot plants in the U. S. A. and therefore have to be overcome primarily. Possible corrosion modes may encompass sulphidation, stress corrosion cracking, naphthenic acid corrosion etc., depending upon the site in the plant. Erosion or erosion/corrosion is the other annoying problem in almost all the components which process solid particle laiden fluid. However, the environment may be very complex and its precise conditions are still to be clarified. Although profound knowledge accumulated in the oil refinery technology can be used to solve, especially, corrosion problems, further effort may be necessary to evaluate materials taking account of the conditions specifically of coal liquefaction.

    A new over-flow prevention valve with a trigger mechanism is designed, fabricated and studied experimentally to evaluate its performances. Loading arms are used to transfer combustible fluid such as oil between tankers and tanks. A loading arm is equipped with an over-flow prevention valve for safety. This valve stops the fluid flow when the fluid exceeds a threshold level in a tank. It must be composed of mechanical elements solely because electric components may induce combustion. Therefore, it uses a pneumatic circuit to detect the fluid level and close the valve. The fabricated valve utilizes positive pressure caused by the height difference of fluid level between the tank and the sensor probe instead of negative pressure that was used in a conventional valve. However, the positive pressure is insufficient to close the valve directly. Therefore, a trigger mechanism is introduced between a piston pushed by the positive pressure and a locking mechanism keeping the valve open. This mechanism generates sufficient force to release the lock and close the main valve from the force pushing the piston. The concept, operation principles and the pneumatic circuit design are presented. Experiments simulating actual operation are carried out with the fabricated valve. The sensor probe is inserted into the water with a constant speed by a single-axis robot instead of flowing oil into the tank. The relation between the velocity and the depth when the valve closes are studied experimentally.

    著者が昨夏視察したイタリアのMonticatini社における重油ガス化法について説堕した。肥料工業などの水素源には従来は石炭またはコークスが使われていたが, 近時炭化水素よりの原料ガスを製造する優位性が注目され, ガス化容易な天然ガスはもちうん, 重油までがガス化原料として考えられてきた。重油ガス化法ではFauser法が代表的なもので, これがMonticatini社で操業されており, 筆者は詳しくこれを説明した。他にHercule's Powder, Onia, Standard OiI, Koppers, およびTexacoの諸法がある。天然ガスもイタリアで多量にFauser法の原料に使用されている。

    This paper aims at clarifying reasons why IG Farben failed in selling the lisence of the IG method for synthetic oil through an analysis of documents held BASF Archive and other documents.
    In the middle of 1930 es IG Farben changed its starategy and decided to sell the lisence of the IG method for synthetic oil abroad as well as in Germany. Its first target was Japanese market. In those years it dominated in Japan a boom for synthetic oil industry. IG Farben made every effort and approached to South Manchurian Railway Company, Mitsubishi Mining Co., Ogura petroleum Co. and other 10 companies or projects. It could not, however, succeed in concluding any contract with them.
    There can be three hypotheses to explain IG's failure : (1) The International Hydrogeneration Engineering and Chemical Co., which was established by four big enterprises incuding IG and held the hydrogeneration patent, restrained IG's effort; (2) Strict conditions presented by IG Farben discouraged Japanese companies which intended to introduce the IG method; (3) Japanese Navy, which was trying to develop socalled Navy method for itself, opposed against introducing the IG method strongly.
    My analysis reveals : (1) In spite of IHEC's negative attitude IG had chances to conclude contracts with some Japanese companies till 1939; (2) There were some cases where Japanese side did not take presented conditions too strict; and (3) The Navy hindered effectively projects of some companies such as South Manchurian Railway Company and Ogura Petroleum Co. Results of my analysis abandon former two hypotheses, but do not abandon the last one.
