Doppler effect of ultrasonic wave offers a system of measuring the speed of sands suspended in water. The design of this system demands the estimation of ultrasonic target strength of sands suspended in water. Furthermore, it seems that scattering of ultrasonic wave from the reveals their volume concentration and distribution in size. Then, this paper deals with a measuring method of the ultrasonic target strength of sands suspended in water. The amplitude of received signal is changing widely as the sample is rotated. This change seems to be caused by interference of the scattered waves from the particles. Statistical analysis on this interference leads to a result that the rms value of 36 measured sound pressure values gives the effective scattered sound pressure with about 10% in deviation. When the sample is placed in the neighborhood of transmitter and receiver, the received signal decreases, Compensation of this reduction is also described.
