Combination Panfuran-S (FT) and Kanamycin (KM) therapy was administered to 120 patients with dysentery and suspected dysentery to examine its effectiveness in bacterial elimination.
1) As a result of the administration of combination FT and KM therapy to 51 patients with bacillary dysentery and Shigella carriers, the causative organisms disappeared in all cases by the 4th day of administration and no reappearance of the organisms was observed. The FT-KM group was slightly more effective in the disappearance of organisms than the KM-NA group used as the control.
2) A study on the clinical effects of FT-KM therapy in 26 patients with diarrhea in which cultures were negative and 51 patients with bacillary dysentery showed that it took a little longer period of treatment for symptoms to disappear in the KM-FT group than in the KM-NA group.
3) In 8 patients with Salmonella enteritis, KM-FT combination therapy showed good effectiveness in bacterial elimination with an efficacy rate of 88.3%.
4) The therapy showed good effectiveness in 14 cases of Vibrio parahemolyticus enteritis.
5) Vomiting was observed as a side-effect in 2 out of 120 cases.

a) Clinical effects: Remission of fever, normalization of the defecation freqency and recovery of the stool findings were all seen within about 3 days on the average.
b) Effects for the duration of bacilli discharge: The bacilli disappeared within 3.8 days after administration of the medicine.
Continuous discharge of the bacilli and reappearance were observed in 20.0% in total (25% in child and 15% in adult).
c) Side effects: Nausea, vomiting and gastric distress were seen in 11.8% during administration of usually used Panfuran S.
On the contrary, as for f.P.S. they were seen in 5.0%.
d) The sensitivity test of shigellae to Panfuran S. was carried out in 100 strains. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was 6.25-0.39 mcg/ml.
From the clinical point of view, there is no difference of effects between f.P.S. and usually used Panfuran S.
And side effects were markedly reduced by film-coating.
The usefulness of f.P.S. in the treatment of bacillary dysentery was confirmed.

合成ポリペプチドのうちでもっとも短い側鎖を持つポリ-L-アラニン (PLA) の溶液中における分子形態について,旋度光分散,粘度,流動複屈折,電気複屈折および赤外吸収の方法により研究した媒。PLAは多くの合成ポリペプチドに対してランダムコイル溶となるジクロル酢酸 (DCA) 中でもヘリックスであり,トリフルオル酢酸 (TFA) 中でランダムコイルとなることが確認された。またDCA-TFA混合溶媒中ではTFA含量の増加とともにヘリックスが徐々にほどけてゆき,特定の溶媒組成における明確な転移は見られなかった。旋光分散が溶媒組成とともに徐々に変化するのに対し,粘度は急激に低下することから,この場合のヘリヅクス-ランダムコイル転移は二者択一的ではなく,転移の途中ではところどころヘリックスのほどけたいわゆる“interxupted he1ix”となっていると推定される。またPLAのDCA溶液では25～70℃の温度範囲で,温度変化に対する転移は見いだされなかった。

ポリ (L-グルタミン酸γ-メチル)(PMLG) の溶液中における分子形態が溶媒組成,温度によりいかに変化するかを粘度屈折,電気複および旋光分散の測定により調べた。溶媒はジクロル酢酸 (DCA)-1,2-ジクロルエタン (DCE) ,びDCA- lDCA-m-クレゾールおよクロロホルム (CHCl₃) の3種の混合溶媒を用いた。
PMLGはDCA中ではランダムコイルであるが,これにDCE,m-クレゾールまたはクロロホルムを加えていくといずれの場合もヘリックスへ転移した。PMLG-DCA-DCE系についての転移点の溶媒組成はDCA60～65%であった。
またPMLG は上記混合溶媒中いずれの場合も,DCA65%の溶媒組成において室温でランダムコイルであるが,温度を上昇させると比較的狭い温度範囲でヘリックスへ転移した。これはポリ(L-グルタミン酸γ-ベンジル) の系で知られている逆転移と同じ現象である。PMLGのDCA-DCE (65:35) 混合溶媒中におけるランダムコイルからヘリックスへの転移にともなうΔHは1.2±0.lkcal/mol,ΔSは4.0±0.3kcal/deg・molであった。

ク形パルス法によりデオキシリボ核酸溶液(波長260mμ)およびデオキシリボ核酸クリスタルバイオレット系(波長590mμ)の電気二色性を電場の強さの関数として研究した。さらに同じ系の電気複屈折もあわせて測定した。いずれの量も低電場では電場の強さの1乗に比例し高電場では飽和に近づく傾向を示した。デオキシリボ核酸一クリスタル・ミイオレット系の電気二色性は高分子と色素の当量比がほぼ10に等しいときに極大を経過した。二色性の符号は負であった。これはクリスタルバイオレットの分子面がデオキシリボ核酸の分子軸に対し直角方向に結合していることを示す。最後に複屈折の測定におよぼす二色性の影響を論じた。

Heibon (published by Magazine House) was founded as a literary magazine in 1945, but it changed into a popular magazine for amusement in 1948. It had two main elements-photogravures and stories. Being tied up with both radio and cinema in many ways, it enlarged its circulation during the first half of the 1950's. However, with the spread of TV during the 1960's, Heibon changed into a magazine whose main element was photogravures featuring TV celebrities. By doing so, it expanded its circulation again during the first half of the 1970's, but was finally discontinued in 1987.

The discontinuation of the magazine may be explained by three factors influencing each other. First, the change from the age of radio and cinema into that of TV diminished the role of Heibon. Second, Myojo (published by Shueisha) gained more popularity than Heibon since the 1970's. Third, Magazine House changed into a company mainly publishing ‘lifestyle-magazines’ which depend heavily on income from advertisements.

The three changes about Heibon - two changes of itself and one change of its publisher are very important when we examine popular magazines in post-war Japan.
