The Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD), a kind of triode electron tube, has been in the market for 21 years since it was developed first. The first feature was of a 7 segmented type and then a variety of types, 5×7 dot character type, dot matrix type, complex-pattern type, etc. were successively developed in the sequence. Today, ultra-small active-matrix VFDs using MOSFET substrates are under development. The low voltage drive is known as a distinctive feature of VFDs. However the emission color of all early VFDs was limited to blue-green only. The current VFDs are enable to emit almost all colors, such as red, orange, lemon and etc.. Thus VFDs have taken place of other display devices and occupies an important position. Problems for future VFDs developing highly efficient phosphors that can emit multi-color, fabrication of the high resolution phosphor screens, elimination of the vacuum exhaust tube, etc. are pointed out.

When the numerical display devices with 7 segments were minutely observed on segments constituting figures, the luminous unevenness within a segment and the luminous difference among each segments had been found.
If the luminous unevenness exists, visual impression is not only bad, but it is feared to cause misreading by decreasing the visibility of figures.
Then various tests were carried to investigate throughly the relations between the luminous unevenness and visibility.
The following results were given from the various tests.
(1) The permissible luminous difference was 1.4% to 4.2% among segments with rated luminance.
(2) The luminous ununiformity caused from figures have given the different visibility and also shown the more difference of the threshold to recognize figures.

An active-matrix addressed vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) has been investigated to develop an on-chip image display and a multichip character display.
It consists of low energy cathodoluminescent phosphor elements deposited on the respective MOS transistors and an area cathode. In the case of conventional VFD, the phosphor lighting is turned off by cutting-off the elect ron irradiation to the phosphor. But, for the active-matrix addressed VFD, the electron flow is controlled continuously by a transistor to produce a gray shade. Therefore, there are certain physical restrictions to be satisfied by the components for the device to perform.
This paper considers the physical mechanism of operation and it clarifies the relations among the physical parameters of materials composing the device. Based on these relations, examples applied to the actual devices are presented.

アクティブマトリックス型はシリコンチップ上に形成した蛍光体ドットを低速電子線励起により発光させる表示デバイスであり, 従来のでは達成することが難しい高密度表示, コンパクト化, 低消費電力等が実現可能である.
本論文はその技術的特徴を明らかにする目的で原理と構成技術の要点にふれ, 表示特性についてはその詳細を明らかにするため理論的計算結果に基づく考察を行った.その結果, 真空空間における内部抵抗の変化による輝度特性, トランジスタ特性とグリッドの作用に基づくガンマ特性の調節, および蛍光面近傍の電位分布が画質に及ぼす効果等についての現象が明らかとなった.
応用開発例として, 各画素にダイナミックメモリー機能を有する超小型画像表示管と, スタティックメモリー機能を有する小型高密度漢字表示管をあげ, 構造上の特徴についても明らかにした.

光プリンタの書き込み光源として，新規な固体走査型発光素子“蛍光体ドットアレイ”（FLDA）を開発した．低消費電力・低電圧駆動が可能なの技術を利用したものであり，基本的に1次元配列の高輝度・高精細のである．等倍結像素子には筆者らが独自に開発した“ルーフミラーレンズアレイ”（RMLA），IC実装にも独自開発の“高密度・高速ワイヤボンディング技術”を用いて，小型化と低価格化を両立させ，有効印字幅：8.5インチ，印字密度：300dpiのプリントヘッドを実現した．

　本稿は，既存技術が新規技術によって代替される技術転換期に，新規参入企業が既存技術を伸張させるという事象に注目する．本稿では真空管からトランジスタへの転換期に真空管技術を応用してを発明した伊勢電子工業の事例を検討した．結果，技術転換期に既存技術が伸張する上では新規技術に組み込まれることが重要であり，それを可能とする背後には技術転換以前に形成された技術者間の紐帯があることが示唆された．

オルソホトを作成する走査過程で, オルソホトを作るために求められた高さの情報を利用して, メッシュ交点の高さの数値を希望縮尺のメッシュ交点位置に展開して写真的に焼付けられ, 更にそれと同時にその座標値をテープとして打出すことも出来るようなDTMシステムを開発した。

　本稿は，専業メーカーと総合メーカーの技術開発体制の比較を行い，その相違が開発成果にもたらす影響を探索したものである．業界を対象とした事例分析の結果，総合メーカーは特定の専門領域を持つ人員の異動により，要素技術の構成を適時変化させているのに対し，専業メーカーでは領域横断的な共同開発のネットワークがあり，中心人物の世代交代によって開発の焦点が緩やかに変化する，というパターンの違いが示される．
