ICRU Report 33, 1980 By Katsuhiro KAWASHIMA ICRU Report 33 supersedes ICRU Report 19. Since ICRU Report 19 was published, a number of discussions have been taken place between members of ICRU and other workers in the field of ionizing radiations. Some of them have resulted in the acceptance of certain modifications which are incorporated in the current report. There has been also some expansion and rearrangement of the material in the earlier report.
The ICRU will use SI units and special names of gray, becquerel and sievert. Although it will also include the special units of rad, roentgen, curie and rem, ICRU has recommended that the use of these special units be phased out by 1985.
The quantities for general use in Part A are divided into four categories entitled "Radiometry", "Interaction Coefficients", "Dosimetry" and "Radioactivity". Part B deals with quantities for use in radiation protection and includes two restricted index quantities.
The present article is an interpretative translation of he report. Certain additional definitions and terms appearing in the current report have been primarily translated into Japanese. A comprehensive table is provided to compare ICRU Report 33 with ICRU Reports 11 and 19.
