In order to measure the hand strength pushing down, a knob, a dynamometer has been designed, in which the knob end is allowed to deform a spring steel bar and the degree of deformation is recorded by electrical strain gauges. With this apparatus, the maximum isometric force developed in different position of the knob, has been studied with 3 adult women in a standing position. 1) The most effective position of the knob is placed at the point just below the acrominal process or a little in front of this point. 2) In higher positions of the knob, the force is the greatest when the elbow is fully flexed and it decreases with gradual extention. In lower positions of the knob, the force is the greatest when the elbow is extended. 3) The force falls abruptly when the full abduction is approached in the shoulder joint.
