PostScript technology was introduced to the printing market in 1984 by Apple Computer's LaserWriter printer. Since then, PostScript technology is being licensed by major printer/imagesetter vendors in Japan and all of them support Kanji printing capabilities. This technology is somewhat like a system software for printing devices, which is rather transparent to users. This document will describe how PostScript technology works. Also included are some related technologies surrounding PostScript and its font technologies.
