The liquid storage container (tank) is listed as one of facilities which are apt to be damaged by earthquake in industrial facilities. As for earthquake damages of containers, the sloshing phenomenon of the liquid free surface, and the bulging one which is due to the interaction between the container structure rigidity and the liquid pressure force, become problems. Of these, we investigate a nonlinear sloshing. Although there are many papers which introduce the small parameter till its 3 power term for nonlinearity based on the Galerkin's method, a modal approach to the nonlinear sloshing which superposes the linear solutions using Fourier series representations is presented for the seismic response analysis on the nonlinear sloshing of a rectangular liquid storage container.
