As a basis of thread grinding on ceramic bobbins used for high frequency coils with a diamond wheel, the peculiarities in plain grinding are compared concerning grinding force, wear of abrasives, ground surface and grinding efficiency for steatite, forsterite and alumina. The results obtained are as follows: (1) Low grinding force and large stock removal are obtained in the case of a small work speed, say, 0.1m/min, (2) Wear is severe in grinding of alumina. When the wear percentage on the points of abrasives in area reaches to 2-3 %, grinding force increases with smaller stock removal, including the cases for other ceramics. (3) Steatite exhibits plastic flowed surfaces, the grinding of which is generally difficult in dry state. Alumina ground with sharp abrasives or forsterite have fractured surfaces, and the latter is far easier to be ground. (4) The grinding efficiencies are 1.5-2. 5 for alumina and 3.1-3.7 for forsterite when taking the efficiency as 1 for steatite.
