We have been trying to do osseo and chondro induction, composite with crude BMP and various kind of carriers in vivo. This time, we tried to do chondro induction from mesenchymal tissues from the forelimbs of the fetal rats using biodegradable membranes and non-biodegradable membrane as scaffolds in vitro. We could get the best result in the case of using non-biodegradable membrane as a scaffolds.

Test periodontal dressing materials containing two kinds of synthetic pyrimidine compounds were examined for formation of tubule-like structures by umbilical vein endothelial cells. With these two specimens, the percent area of the tubule-like structures increased to 132% and 166%, compared to the control.In addition to conventional products,Coe-Pak revealed similar results.

In the previously study we have reported on the application of VR haptic device in the simulation of osteotomy to jaw deformity. By operating 3-D CT image, cutting, separation, displacement and connection of the jawbone was possible. In the present study several simulations of osteotomies were attempted. Displacement and rotation of the bone were compared, and the suitable osteotomy was discussed.

The immobilization behavior of cell adhesive protein onto the tresylated tianium was monitored using a quartz crystal microbalance-dissipation technique. The adsorbed amount of fibronectin was increased by the tresyl chloride treatment, and the fibronectin was effectively immobilized onto the tresylated titanium.

After degassing on gold-coated titanium, Ti3Al and Ti3Au layers were formed in titanium side. Thickness of gold-coated layer was increased. Gold-coated layer changed into Au-Ti intermetallic compounds layer. After porcelain fusing, formation of titanium-deficient layer in titanium side was suppressed. Diffusion of Ti cation into porcelain seemed to be prevented.

The HA thin film was formed on the porous surface of the Au alloy implant to enhance bone/implant bonding. An alkyl thiol having calboxyl group was immobilized onto the porous surface and the specimen was immersed in Ca-P solution. HA film was formed over the entire porous surface by this simple method.

We prepared DNA/lipid complexes from DNA and amphiphilic lipid. The DNA/lipid complex powder was heated under press for 1 minute. The transparency DNA films were obtained. The antibacterial activity of the DNA films was influenced by kind of amino acid and the length of alkyl chains in lipids.

In order to develop a carrier that the cell and soft tissue could take in, the sintering of the HAP, which was prepared by a wet method, was examined by using a spark plasma sintering method. When the HAP was plasma-sintered at 400-600 oC, the occupied ratio of the HAP in the obtained block was under 40 % and the block was very porous.

In this study, we fabricated fiber reinforced ceramics (FRC). The matrix used was alumina, and the reinforcement which was chosen for this study was Si-Ti-C-O fabric fiber. Then, the FRC was fabricated by lay-up and sintering of preimpregnated green sheets. As a result, the mechanical properties of FRC were more excellent than unreinforced alumina.
