Abstract
"Iroha Playing Cards for Low Vision" are Japanese playing cards that consist of humorous poems and illustrations which explain the daily living situations of people with low vision. The cards were written by a member of the Association of People with Low Vision based on 17-syllable satirical poems, and produced by the Association. They were designed so that they could be enjoyed both by people with normal eyesight and those with low vision. Playing the game together provides people with normal vision an opportunity to learn more about low vision and how people with low vision deal with everyday situations. The cards consist of "Reading Cards" and "Picture Cards". Each of the Reading Cards contains one of the poems written in white Gothic type on a black background. On the back side of each card is the first character only of the poem on that card. The Picture Cards illustrate daily situations from the lives of 6 people with low vision, drawn with a comic touch. On the back sides of the Picture Cards are explanations of low vision in categories such as symptoms, conditions, and the vision aids used by people with low vision.
