Abstract
In this paper, the author describes the development approach of a design project for public bus wraps promoting Shimokita Geopark, part of a collaboration with local people to depict the region’s life-world. The project involved locals participating in planning and implementing a geopark fieldwork workshop (FW). In the FW, although on familiar ground, the locals experienced it as uncharted territory from the perspective of earth science. Thus, they experienced the real life-world of locals cohabiting with the Earth and used workshop to depict what they learned about the world. Based on this, they designed bus wraps to promote the geopark and announced two design proposals. Consequently, due to popular demand from locals and the mayor, both bus wrap designs were implemented. Through this series of activities, they found that using bus wraps to create a visual representation of the life-world discovered through fieldwork, for both those involved in the project and the locals, created a learning community capable of appreciating and enjoying their own life-world.
