Abstract

Nakahama Elementary School in Yamamoto town, Miyagi Prefecture. On March 11, 2011, 90 people who were present at the time of the impending tsunami evacuated to the roof of the school and were flooded up to the ceiling of the second floor, but all were rescued the next morning. The damaged school building was preserved with a few traces of the destruction caused by the tsunami as possible and opened to the public as a legacy of the Great East Japan Earthquake. With the disaster-stricken school building itself, we designed an integrated tour experience through exhibits, booklets, videos, monuments, and learning materials as a place to think about their disaster preparedness. This facility will pass on the experience of the disaster and contribute to the disaster culture of the region.
