Abstract

We aimed to design an architecture, located in Kanie-cho, Aichi, opened to the local just like public parks, utilizing culvert box, one of the civil engineering materials. Grasping the local needs through workshops involving local childcare support, we attempted to create “third place” for children and their family members by incorporating bakery, café, laundry facilities as well as playground such as sandpit.
This park also functions as a satellite office of a construction firm, where local citizens can socialize and come in touch with the civil engineering technologies. On the other hand, Culvert Park is expected to contribute to town development activities such as independence support for young bakery, or river environmental protection system.
As desired in “post-coronavirus towns”, where the bustling atmosphere spreading from private shops to public pavements, this is our attempt at creating such an atmosphere by utilizing gifts of civil engineering within an architectural space.
