Abstract

Aromatherapy, a popular alternative therapy to keep and to enhance our health, is characterized by using essential oils derived from plants.lt has several kinds of effects such as pharmaceutical and psychological ones. In alternative therapies including aromatherapy, spontaneous healing is supposedly induced by the integration of diversity and unity of life. In this review, the author has tried to discuss the mechanism of the psychological effects that aromatherapy has on the states of consciousness by the application of neurological signal cognition in our internal and/or external environment. A hypothesis has been proposed that Altered State of Consciousness induced by aromatherapy may perhaps be related to neurological changes by Stochastic Resonance.
