Glycerol was found at a rather high level in ovaries and eggs of the two-spotted cricket (non-diapause species), Gryllus bimaculatus DE GEER. Haemolymph glycerol in the female adult was more abundant than in the male. Glycerol in the eggs accumulated throughout ovarian development after emergence, but decreased gradually with embryonic development. The physiological role of this substance was discussed in comparison with other insects and mammals.
