Studies on the Mating Behavior of the Cockroach, Nauphoeta cinerea (OLIVIER) (Dictyoptera : Blaberidae) III. Isolation and Identification of Intermale Recognition Pheromone

A male pheromone was extracted and isolated from the cuticular wax of mature males of Nauphoeta cinerea. This is considered to be an intermale recognition pheromone which functions in recognition by conspecific males through antennal contact. The chemical structure of the pheromone was identified as octadecyl (Z)-9-tetracosenoate, for which the name "nauphoetin" was proposed.
